Believing that you are a deeply loved son of God—regardless of your performance—is not easy. The world constantly tells us that our worth is measured by our success or failure. That message is deeply ingrained, and it traps us in a cycle of striving, shame, and never feeling like we're enough.
But everything begins to change when we grasp the incredible, daily grace of God. That’s when we begin to truly come alive and become the men we were created to be.
The Bible tells us that those who trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior are called saints—holy ones (1 Corinthians 1:2). If that’s who we already are, then our journey is about learning to walk with God and live out that identity.
Sometimes, living this out means doing simple but powerful things—like reaching out to a trusted friend when you feel tempted toward unhealthy behavior. When we "tell on ourselves," we break the power of secrecy and shame. We give space for truth and love to enter, and we’re reminded—by God and others—that we are not alone, and that temptation doesn’t define us. We’re still beloved sons of the King.
Another way to walk in our identity is by daily speaking the truth over our lives—reminding ourselves of who God says we are. From that overflow of His love and grace, we begin to relate to others with more compassion and authenticity.
Recently, I had an experience that captured this beautifully. On a virtual group coaching call, I shared my story of struggling with compulsive behaviors and the shame that followed. But as I spoke, I found myself naturally shifting into sharing about God’s love and grace. By the end of the call, the atmosphere had changed. When the leader told me I was reflecting God’s grace, I felt overwhelmed—in the best way. It made me want to live that way more consistently.
Living in our true identity takes time, healing, and intentional effort. But when we embrace it, we discover real purpose. We no longer need to prove ourselves. Instead, we learn to love others from a place of freedom—not needing their approval.
If you’d like to explore what it means to live from your God-given identity, I’d love to talk. Book an initial appointment to see if coaching might be a good fit for your journey.
